How
threatening for mankind is an Artificial Brain ?
First
let me state that at this moment the biggest threat for mankind
is the human specie ! ABC-weapons in wrong hands can result
in extreme damaging behavior. Most scientists agree that the CO2
and micro-dust problem we face today and at least the next 100 years
is mainly caused by us humans, but we just keep on going producing
toxic gasses into the atmosphere as if there was no problem at all…
Suicide bomber attacks, increased number of deadly assaults in schools
or on campuses both in the U.S. and Europe, religious and ethnical
conflicts, etc …
The
main reason I publish the essentials for an Artificial Brain available
for everybody on the Internet is that the way current evolutions
in A.I. are going the wrong way and could indeed form a serious
threat for us humans. Copying the human brain as such in vast amounts
of electrical or digital neural networks is far from wise ! Too
many unknown variables are present ! The number of interconnections
is simply too high ! We often talk about millions of connections
and do not know enough about our brain to have control over it if
something is going the wrong direction. If it will work at all !
Some
companies (partially) try to imitate the brain's behavior on massive
clusters of computers (total of 1.000 processors) in order to discover
more 'intelligent' neural networks applicable for commercial use.
I personally encourage this since all will benefit from this in
the long term. The only warning in these scenario's is to keep the
pre-frontal cortex (center of creativity) as small as possible to
avoid possible problems, if this area is covered in the design.
Do
not doubt for a moment that sooner or later an Artificial Brain
will be reality, the strategic advantages for the military are simply
too high. One must not forget that the upcoming superpower
China has 1.3 billion citizens and some other superpowers consider
this as a potential threat since they only have a fraction of this
amount as citizens ! Therefore I prefer a clear and understandable
design as described in ‘The Artificial Brain’ over some
creation of Frankenstein with no control over at all !
The
basic conclusion is that an A.B. can impose a threat for mankind
if not done correctly, with knowledge and implemented control-systems.
The required knowledge reaches a little wider than just simple psychology,
neurology or electronics !
